An Independent Domestic & Violence Advocate (IDVA) is a specialist support worker who helps people affected by domestic abuse access the support, information, and advocacy they need to stay safe and move forward. IDVAs work alongside survivors, helping them understand their options, navigate services, and access practical and emotional support tailored to their circumstances.
At Her Centre, we offer a range of specialist IDVA services designed to meet the diverse needs of our community:

Each service provides specialist support for different groups and circumstances, ensuring survivors can access the right help, at the right time, in a way that works for them.
Our One Stop Shop is a free, drop-in service where you can get support, advice, and guidance if you’re experiencing domestic abuse. You’ll be able to speak to a Her Centre Independent Domestic & Sexual Abuse Advocate (IDSVA) as well as qualified Family Law Solicitors from GT Stewart Solicitors and Farani Taylor Solicitors, who can help with things like protective orders, court matters, and child arrangements. We can even start paperwork with you on the day, and if you qualify for legal aid, your case can be picked up straight away. If you’re not eligible, legal students are there to offer additional support.
Please note that this service is for women only. If you are a man experiencing abuse, please visit the Respect website.

This group is open to all Her Centre service users and to any women in Greenwich who have experienced abuse and want to influence local services.
Meetings take place every other month and consist of a mix of speakers such as the Director of Children’s Social Services and the borough’s Police Commander. We can ask questions about how they support women and have debates on issues that affect women such as child contact, harassment and building a career. Meetings also include a review of feedback on services in the borough run by Her Centre and Greenwich Domestic Violence & Abuse Services.
If you are interested in joining, please email naomi@hercentre.org.

If you want to help end violence against women and girls (VAWG) in your community, this training gives you the confidence and tools to act. You’ll learn when it is safe and appropriate to intervene, how to safely challenge harmful behaviour, support others, and recognise when intervention is needed. By the end, you’ll feel more empowered to make a positive difference and help create a culture where abuse is not tolerated.
1.5 hours for up to 50 people · £200
If you’re an employer, manager, or part of a team, this training helps you take meaningful action on domestic abuse in your workplace. You’ll learn how to recognise the signs, respond appropriately, and build a supportive environment for employees. You’ll also be guided to develop effective domestic abuse policies, sign a Women’s Safety Charter, and nominate Domestic Abuse Champions within your organisation — helping you create lasting, practical change.
1.5 hours for up to 50 people · £200
If you work in a professional or support role, this training helps you stay ahead of the ways technology is used to perpetrate abuse. You’ll explore how tools like AI, smart devices, and tracking apps can be misused, and learn how to recognise and respond to these risks. You’ll leave better equipped to safeguard others and provide informed, practical support.
1.5 hours for up to 50 people · £200
If you work in a public-facing role — such as a librarian, receptionist, pharmacist, nursery worker, or any other role where you support the public — this training will help you feel more confident supporting people who may be experiencing domestic abuse. You’ll learn how to recognise signs, respond safely, and have supportive conversations, even if you’re not a specialist. This means you can offer reassurance, avoid causing harm, and help people access the right support when they need it most.
