Defend Our Rights:
Our rights are under threat. The government is passing new laws that will reverse hard-won legal protections and leave us unable to hold the government to account.
The Policing Bill is an attack on our fundamental human rights – including the right to protest, which is vitally important to women’s rights movements. This law will increase police powers, while having no meaningful impact on violence against women. What’s more, it will worsen racial inequality through increased police intrusion into the lives of Black and ethnic minority communities.
In addition, the Nationality and Borders Bill will criminalise women and girls crossing borders to seek safety – many of whom are survivors of some of the worst forms of violence. It will leave them at risk of violence at the hands of smugglers, traffickers, and others who may abuse and exploit them.
To make matters worse, the government plans to overhaul the Human Rights Act – the only legal tool that allows us to hold the police to account for serious failings. This legal protection is fundamental to women’s right to be safe from violence, as we know that an overwhelming number of police failings relate to sexual violence and domestic abuse.

This is a moment in history that will shape the future for generations to come. Together, we can use our collective power to challenge the government’s raid on rights and fight for justice for survivors.
